Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data Stowlines handles, why, and what you can do about it. It covers the Stowlines platform at app.stowlines.com, the website stowlines.com, and the Stowlines Voyage Estimator apps for Android and iPhone.
1. Who we are
Stowlines is operated by Lantern Telecom L.L.C, a company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates ("we"). For anything in this policy, write to admin@stowlines.com.
Stowlines is a business service. A shipping company (the "customer") subscribes to it and gives its staff user accounts. For the data its users enter, the customer decides what is kept and for how long, and we handle that data on its behalf.
2. The data we handle
| Data | What it is | Why we need it |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | Your name, email address, mobile number, user name, your company, your role, and a protected (hashed) form of your password. | To give you an account, sign you in and keep it secure. |
| What you enter | Vessels, port tariffs, voyages, schedules, estimates and the other business records you and your colleagues create. | To provide the service to your company. |
| Trial and contact requests | What you put in a form on the website: name, company, email, and optionally a phone number, country and message. | To reply to you and arrange a trial. |
| Billing details | Your company's billing name, address and billing email, the plan and the invoices. Card payments are taken by Stripe: we never see or store full card numbers, only the card's type, last four digits and expiry date. | To invoice the subscription and take payment. |
| Messages we send you | Service emails such as verification codes, password resets, invoices and notices about your account. | To run your account. |
| Technical records | The IP address, the time and the page or request, kept in server logs, and sign-in attempts. | To keep the service secure and find faults. |
We do not collect your location, your contacts, or advertising identifiers. We do not use advertising or tracking tools, and we do not sell personal data.
3. What is kept on your device
The website and the apps keep a few things in your browser or on your phone so they work as you left them: that you are signed in (a cookie), your light or dark theme, the estimate you are working on, routes you saved on the phone, and templates. They stay on the device and are put away when another user signs in on it. Clearing the browser's or the app's data removes them.
4. Who handles data for us
We use a small number of service providers. They handle data only to provide their service to us:
- Render hosts the application and its database, in the United States.
- Stripe takes card payments for subscriptions.
- Brevo, or the mail server your company has set, delivers the emails the service sends.
Some content is loaded by your device straight from its publisher, which receives your IP address as any website does: map images (Esri), weather and storm information (Open-Meteo and public storm feeds), and fonts and script libraries (Google Fonts, jsDelivr, unpkg).
We disclose personal data to others only when the law requires it.
5. Where data is kept and for how long
Data is kept on servers in the United States. If you are in another country, your data is transferred there to provide the service.
- Account details and the records you enter are kept while your company's subscription is active, and are deleted or made anonymous within 90 days after it ends, unless your company asks for them sooner.
- Invoices and payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Server logs are kept for up to 90 days.
- Trial and contact requests are kept for up to 24 months.
6. Your choices and rights
You can see and correct your account details in the application, or ask your company's administrator. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to ask for a copy of your personal data, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how it is used. Write to admin@stowlines.com and we will answer within 30 days. Where the data belongs to your company's account, we may pass your request to your company, which decides on it.
7. Deleting your account and data
To have your user account deleted, either ask your company's Stowlines administrator, who can remove it at once under Users, or write to admin@stowlines.com from the email address of the account with the subject "Delete my account". We delete the account and the personal data in it within 30 days.
What is deleted: your name, email address, user name, password and sign-in history. What may be kept: the business records you entered, which belong to your company, with your name removed from them; and invoices, which the law requires us to keep. A company that wants its whole organisation and all its data deleted can ask in the same way.
8. Security
All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only in hashed form. Access to the systems is limited to the people who need it, and each customer's data is kept apart from every other customer's.
9. Children
Stowlines is a tool for businesses and is not meant for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with its date. For changes that matter, we tell account administrators by email.
11. Law and contact
This policy is governed by the law of the United Arab Emirates. Questions and complaints: admin@stowlines.com. You may also complain to the data protection authority of your country.
